"in the subterranean dark

the sacred stream eternal flows,

from depth sometimes its sounds will spark;

those who hear them sense a secret,

see it escaping, desire to keep it,

burn from nostalgia,

suspecting the beauty."

artificial, shallow and cold materials are shaping our lives, our environment, our existence — caused by the human addiction for efficiency and effectiveness

extract from the text modules:

"artificial, shallow and cold materials are shaping our lives, our environment, our existence — caused by the human addiction for efficiency and effectiveness.

conformity is the result of the industrial urbanisation – whereas natural materials stand for more attentiveness and maintenance as well as constant development. through their contact with time, humans, warmth, coldness, light, wind and water, natural materials represent an order of chronological cycles.

the essence of stone; an allegory and fundamental part of our world: rough, natural, simple, profound, constant, calm, sheltering, never repeating its structure. inspired by the impressive, natural and elemental processes within glaciers, stones and other mineral materials are in constant motion at rieder‘s factories. these dynamics allow the creation of the vibrant material that accompanied humanity for millennia: concrete.

stone — origin and allegory of concrete

a simple stone is the essence of concrete’s nature. rieder recognised that the primal informations of our world are hidden deep inside stones. aim of the joint study was, and still is, to unveil this profundity in rieder‘s concrete; to make it accessible and perceptible in order to oppose the growing trend of a homogenous appearance of our manmade world.

the communications concept as well as the products strive to awaken the sensibility of the observer for the seemingly unimportant. at best the work creates mental spheres that grant a slowdown. soul and spirit shall be enriched equally by tranquility and motion.

the result

an honest surface was created, storing liveliness as well as eternity. its unagitated impression might be the greatest feature of concrete. in its subtle way it can create a moment of inner peace for the observer.

it disconnects the perception of time and space, concealing the external chaos. it develops a contemplative character and helps to focus on the important things. the myth of its inscrutability is cultivated by rieder also for its aesthetic values.

the billowing tranquility of the material delves into the observer, flows and is reflected in the handling with thoughts and fellow human beings. the restless and hectic environment is replaced by modesty, without ignoring the surroundings. the material always reveals an impression of it origin: stone, mountain, rock, massif, glacier, earth.

the result is an honest surface that at the same time stores life and eternity

from the homogeneous surface "back" to the lively cloudiness of the concrete.
