walter knoll / "process" / concept, photography and exhibition design
"i'm interested in the mystery. the mystery is the substantial part of every work of art."
luis bunuel [spanish-mexican director]
conception, design and realisation of the photographic exhibition design to introduce the new "leadchair" as part of walter knoll's exhibition booth.
aim for 22quadrat was to develop a photographic expedition to the roots of walter knoll's new leadchair in 2012/13. the studio focused on the spaces where first sudden inspirations and conversations become ideas and concrete, tangible objects with a history and character. the result was an artistic narration, comprising a wide range of individual and fragmental components.
the journey begins in vienna in the atelier of eoos, the designers of the leadchair. here the first thoughts of the chair were born, ideas developed and models made.
second part of the journey is the calm and focussed atmosphere at walter knoll's workshops in herrenberg. the first prototypes were manufactured here and finally the leadchair went into production.
journey's end is the office of 22quadrat, where they explored the aura of the chair, it's surface characteristics, it's feel and it's details – how the chair interacts with space, light and time.
inspired by the character of an art gallery the atmospheric explorations of the leadchair were presented as serial placements around walter knoll's exhibition booth.
